Sondos Brings Cuteness to the Internet Computer as the Female Artist Behind ICKoalas
Representation is essential in every aspect of life, and this includes the NFT community. With Sondos, the talented artist behind the ICKoalas project, we get more than just incredible artwork. Let’s learn more about Sondos, one of the talented female artists in the Internet Computer ecosystem.
Thank you for taking the time to answer some questions so the community can get to know you a little better! Let’s start with a little about your background.
Background:
Would you mind telling us a little bit about yourself?
My name is Sondos. I’m 24, a momma of a beautiful two-year-old girl, and I've been drawing for as long as I can remember, but I started with digital art just five or six years ago. I love coffee, sculpting, painting, and playing video games.
What got you started with art?
I don't remember the exact moment I discovered I love drawing, I think I was very young, but I have always loved the small details of everything – nature, people, places – there is a lot of hidden beauty in everything around us.
I agree – the world is a beautiful place! Now let’s discuss your artwork a little.
Art:
What is the inspiration for your artwork?
A lot of things, but when it comes to my NFT art style, I think I lean towards humor and cuteness.
The Koalas are certainly cute! What is your favorite medium? Do you have a preference between physical and digital art?
Oil and gouache – I love both, but I lean towards physical because running a brush over a canvas is not something I found a form of in digital art.
NFTs:
Is ICKoalas your first NFT project? Or do you have others you can tell us about?
No, but it was the first to feature me as their official artist. My first project was She Survives. They also feature me now. I still haven't gotten the chance to focus on something of my own project.
What do you like most about the Internet Computer ecosystem?
I guess the freedom, how it shortened our distances, gave people chances to do what they love and are passionate about.
I want to take a moment to ask you a question that none of the artists I’ve previously interviewed could answer because you are the first female artist in the ecosystem that I’ve had the privilege to interview. How important would you say it is for young women to see successful female artists in the NFT space?
First off, thank you for your kind words. I wouldn't consider myself a successful artist yet, but I think it's very important to see successful female artists in this space as this opens a gate of opportunity that has existed before but not to this degree. NFTs were my first steppingstone in introducing my art to the world.
Favorites:
Who is your favorite artist?
Vincent Van Gogh is why I love oil painting.
What is your favorite animal?
Oh, I can't pick one I love most, but if I had to choose, I would say bunnies, hamsters, otters. I really can't choose less than three!
What is your favorite direction for a profile picture to face (left, right, forward)?
Right, but anything works for me.
Future:
Are you also doing the art for the Noxious Leaves and Mutant Koalas?
Yes, I will be doing the art for the Noxious Leaves and Mutant Koalas.
Do you have plans to work with any other NFT projects in the future?
Yes, as much as humanly possible! I never had the courage to show my art to anyone (let alone sell it), but after my husband's encouragement for years and finding out about the NFT world by accident, I finally have a voice and hopefully a positive impact on the community.
Well, we are hearing your voice loud and clear, and we look forward to your current and future projects! Thanks for taking the time to speak with me today. And for our readers, if you want to pick up the stunning work from Sondos, here are some important links:
