Metaverse: The upcoming realm of 3D creators and the IC
You must have heard of the term Metaverse, but perhaps you don't have a glimpse of what it entails. It is no secret that the Metaverse is the future. We at Dfinity Community have constantly ensured we deliver the best updates on recent happenings on the Internet Computer blockchain. Some participants have asked questions such as, "Can the IC power the metaverse?"
Before delving into the crux of the article, let's take a look at the Metaverse and what it entails. Consider walking into the Metaverse. Let's imagine the sky above our virtual residence is green. The room next to our door is designed with elaborate art galleries, people visit the ticketed golf courses with their NFTs, and locals pass through for a seminar or concert. The Metaverse has become a global fascination discussed daily by millions of investors, gamers, 3D creators, and digital artists.
The story of the Metaverse is the story of 3D creators and modern architects.
The changing dynamics of communicating and interacting both influenced and necessitated the creation of an extended world that allows virtual and real places to coexist. As it is increasingly shaping virtual and real life, the culture of 3D images and visuals is gradually leading us into an interactive world within and into a digitally-driven, creator-enabled economy. This is the beginning of CreatorFi and GameFi - a term that fortuitously refers to enabling creators, gamers, industrial designers, and all makers to create, market, sell, and authenticate their digital assets, running on the Internet Computer blockchain.
The Metaverse and what it means for 3D Designers/Architects
Super-charged, recontextualized, and brought to light by Zuckerberg's announcement, the term "Metaverse" means different things to different people, both in particular and general. The fact is that there is no objective definition as it has yet to be constructed.
The Metaverse is where the Internet is upgraded and enhanced by spatially organized experiences and information primed to deliver 3D content and real-time interaction. 3D content is not essentially limited to a specific experience, unit, or idea but an assembly of multimodal media united by 3-dimensional characteristics.
Centralized platforms became the only options for 3D creators and their clients to connect. After several weeks in the studio and days of advertising their crafts, creators are at the mercy of the new intermediaries - using algorithmic recommendations and ads between users and creators while keeping a huge part of the revenue to themselves. This is where Metaverse and the IC come in.
ICP Framework
The Internet Computer is developed to operate a decentralized metaverse environment because a truly decentralized system like the Internet Computer blockchain differs from others precisely because none of its cloud nodes is centralized. More nodes are currently being added to keep a strong focus on decentralization.
From a social perspective, the IC is rapidly changing the Web3 game, with Distrikt providing an existing decentralized social media network for professionals. At the same time, OpenChat prefers a decentralized messaging application void of dependence on any centralized network or companies.
Figures show that over 80,000 accounts have been created on Distrikt since its launch, and OpenChat crossed over 80,000 during the previous year. Given its fundamentals, these dApps keep sending signals to the public that ICP is an excellent blockchain to invest in. A replacement for WhatsApp, OpenChat, runs entirely on the Internet computer blockchain, an improved framework based on the canister blockchain that allows dapps to run on the IC with the view of improving Web3.
Without a doubt, those caught in the centrally managed Metaverse, just like the proposed "Meta," will be at the mercy of its "owner." Hopefully, the future of IC's solution is powered by a decentralized, unrestricted, unbound exposure to the virtual realm that will be manifested soon.
The tech that will power the Metaverse
Companies have developed the best technologies like the blockchain, augmented reality, 3D construction, artificial intelligence, and the Internet of Things (IoT) to power the Metaverse vision.
ICP Blockchain and cryptocurrency
Sequel to the growth of blockchain, on-chain developers have built systems that can power the Metaverse, but the ICP has taken steps to improve on the loopholes seen on other chains. This step heedfully reproduced results that brought about the Internet Computer Blockchain – a DAO.
Just like the Internet Computer blockchain, the Metaverse can be enlarged with the influence of the on-chain storage of digital assets and its operability with this chain. The future will be designed to conform with this technology because the work-from-home innovation is transforming the world – this is an indication that metaverse communication will be unlocked. The need for a hybrid system will be eased gradually.
Some of the projects built on the Internet computer blockchain are; Metasport basketball, NFT studio, and the recent Supernova Metaverse winner, dSquadNFT. Moreover, dSquad NFT is creating a build-your-own minting engine that can be used in the Metaverse. You can visit the dSquadNft discord for more.
Experts have pointed out that the Metaverse will require bandwidth, latency, and reliability. These are some fundamental components that traditional blockchains like Ethereum, Bitcoin, Solana, or Binance chain, among others, do not possess. They are not built to handle the metaverse goal, whereas the IC blockchain is.
Augmented reality
AR and VR are vital forces behind the Metaverse, allowing for an impressive and wonderful experience. Of course, they are the entry point of virtual reality. Practically, AR displays characters to morph into the real world, making it more accessible than VR since it adopted easy usage on smartphones and cameras. Users can view their surroundings with AR applications, but VR works differently.
VR produces an entirely different experience – it mainly displays computer-generated virtual environments using headsets, gloves, and sensors. Such innovative experience has brought more firms to invest in AR and VR development. The first AR glasses hit the UK as Real Air developed a device that can be used for "Air casting," allowing for an external screen for your phone. Additionally, the "MR Space" behaves more like a set of virtual reality goggles, such as Meta's Quest, with screens you interact with floating in front of you in the virtual space.
3D reconstruction
3D is not new; however, the pandemic has hastened its development. The real estate industry has experienced a drastic improvement, investors who want to buy real estate properties are held back by the pandemic, but 3D has allowed for property tours.
As the Metaverse imagined, buyers can inspect buildings from any part of the world with this new reality in the comfort of their homes. The challenge faced by the virtual world is that the images displayed are not as they ought to be in the real world. Still, with the improvement of 3D, it has become more apparent that it will survive the intended purpose – using sophisticated cameras. The 3D photorealistic models of buildings, objects, and locations are considered when the proper use of the 3D spatial data and 4K HD are passed to computers, processed, and generated a replica virtually in the Metaverse for users to experience them.
Artificial Intelligence
In recent years, AI has been applied widely in every aspect of our lives; businesses have strategically placed AI in decision-making, facial recognition, faster computing, and planning states, among others. AI experts have been faced with the possibility of replacing human input. This has also been the focus of a study that was carried out weighing the likelihood of AI creating the Metaverse.
With the Metaverse, AI can be incorporated into the non-player character (NPCs) at different moments. NPCs exist in most games and are responsible for responses gotten by the players. The AI NPC can function on its own; it is used by millions of users simultaneously. It can be used to create the metaverse avatars making the process more dynamic.
Internet of Things (IoT)
The IoT was first coined in 1999. It is a means of transferring and incorporating everything in the real world into the Internet using sophisticated devices and sensors. This system describes the medium of connectivity with the communication networks available, making interoperability between the real and Internet worlds more seamless.
Enhancing the metaverse world without the IoT is like building an intelligent app without software; it amounts to nothing compared to the software present. For the AR metaverse, the IoT functions as your sensory network that brings physical things into the digital realm – without which the virtual realm will not be able to interface with the physical world.
Final thought
The IC project has preferred solutions to areas where other blockchains have lacked the necessary fuel to power this tech space, and this blockchain is yet to dish out all its hidden treasure in its arsenal, taking gradual steps at a time. The IC can power the Metaverse more than any other blockchain project, conforming to rare characteristics with the use of canister smart contracts on-chain running boundlessly at web speed.
